Internship Opportunity: Mechanical Design Engineer Intern
Job Overview:
We are looking for a passionate Mechanical Design Engineer Intern to join our team on a paid internship basis. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in mechanical design, working closely with our experienced engineers to create detailed designs and models for various projects. The ideal candidate should be proficient in using AutoCAD or any other open-source CAD software. Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation using open-source technology is also welcome.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Drafting:
Assist in developing and modifying detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs and drawings using AutoCAD or other CAD software.
Support the creation of technical drawings, schematics, and models for mechanical components and assemblies.
FEA Simulation:
Assist in conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations using open-source software to evaluate the mechanical performance of designs.
Analyze simulation results to provide insights and recommendations for design improvements.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work alongside senior engineers and design teams to understand project requirements and specifications.
Participate in design reviews and provide input on potential improvements and optimizations.
Prototyping and Testing:
Assist in the preparation of prototypes and support the testing of mechanical components to validate design concepts.
Document test results and provide feedback for design improvements.
Documentation and Reporting:
Help prepare detailed documentation for mechanical designs, including parts lists, assembly instructions, and technical specifications.
Maintain organized records of design changes and project progress.
Research and Development:
Conduct research on new materials, tools, and techniques to enhance design quality and efficiency.
Stay updated on the latest developments in mechanical design software, FEA tools, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or any other open-source CAD software (e.g., FreeCAD, OpenSCAD).
Familiarity with open-source FEA software (e.g., CalculiX, Code_Aster, or OpenFOAM) is a plus.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, drafting standards, and FEA fundamentals.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively.
Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
